Fossils in Brora

Having been born in Brora, and explored both north and south of the river mouth, I found that the best chance of finding fossils, e.g. belemnites, was to the south side - below the old radio station at low tide, among the loose rocks/sand. For interest this is also near the old salt pans of the village. Although perhaps not the most attractive sites, another site of interest was around the old sewage outfall, though I don't know whether this is still operational. Here there was (is) evidence of surface coal, which was related to the old Coal Mine.

I hope that this is some help to fossil hunters in and around Brora.

I know that when I was still in school, we visited the ill-fortuned new coal mine. where we found plenty of ammonites and belemnites. I don't know whether it is still possible to access the spoil heaps from the old (new) pit. Perhaps a trip up the river could be of interest also!!
