Where to look for Fossils at Brora?


(South Brora) - 2003

At South Brora, the rocks are often covered with seaweed and it makes it very difficult to find any fossils here. Also, there are less Jurassic Rocks.


(Collecting on the North Side) - 2003

Most of the Jurassic rocks get washed down from the river and can be found around the mouth. There are also plenty of rocks along the beach walking North. Look out for a blue colored rock. Often these rocks will have white shells showing. You will need a good hammer to split these. The foreshore is actually mostly Triassic rocks, but since these are red in colour, it makes finding the fossiliferious rocks that much easier. Take the photo below, the blue rock to the left is Jurassic.
